Dear Yuletider 2011
Nov. 20th, 2000 11:47 pmDear Yuletide giver person,
I... I don't know what I'm doing. I've never done Yuletide before. Frankly, navigating the form was like tripping headfirst through the window. I just chose fandoms I loved in any form, like any touch of them, even the name of them makes me giddy so I'd love anything, everything; I do not know what I am supposed to even do with a Yuletide letter.
Except say I love you and I am obviously a blithering idiot so pretty much anything will make me sparkle and clap like a crazy person. \o/
So, um, thank you for signing up into one of my fandoms, I think I signed up for The Dark is Rising, Demon's Lexicon and Syfy's Alice (and I am also offering Famous Five because. well, I am still trying to grow up to become George or Timmy, I haven't decided.)
Oh, are you supposed to say what you like? I like everything. This isn't helpful, is it, Yuletider?
I like best: secret identities - especially if they're revealed! \o/, character studies, shmoopy Christmas ficlets, dark apocalyptic decisions, facing worst fears with a friend, major character death (I have masochistic fictional tendencies), crazy funny fluff, sparkling dialogue, ~domestic adventures~ where the scariest thing characters have to face is WHAT EVEN IS A SOUFFLE, secretly twittering BFF/frenemies.
I like... non-linear narrative and literature experimentation, first person, third person, second person, singular or plural. I like fics that make me go "hmmmmm" and fics which make me cry (although I'll deny crying later to anyone but you, I have a reputation to maintain of stoicism and strangeness.)
I love my fandoms, to the point of defending them to the death, and throwing them at people's heads for birthdays and Christmas; you'd think this means I'm pure to canon, but I have a gleeful relationship with AUs and the craziness that can result. I like my characters as postmen, or bakers, or lawyers, or high school kids, or [insert profession here]. Do you live in an interesting world? I'd like to see the characters dance in your world, if you feel in an AU mood.
I like... fic that's been written where the writer's clearly in love with their story, who hasn't compromised an inch on their muse purely to satisfy what they think I want. If you love it, and it's an mpreg tentacle story set in a kennel in 100 acre woods? I'll probably stare for a moment at the summary, but if you loved writing it, that's what'll get me.
Because mostly, I like stories. And I like reading words which have been placed on the screen with joy and abandon (and devilish cackling; I especially like devilish cackling.)
I don't know where I'm going, or what I'm doing, ever. So take my hand, Yuletider, and lead me on a merry chase. <3
Love and salutations,
Addy xx
