I like the trope when it's done well... which I suppose is true of most tropes really. Anywho, mostly I think Truth or Dare tends to lead to romance/shipping, although I wrote a Veronica Mars AU based on The Breakfast Club once and the Truth or Dare in that was more about bringing the whole group closer together (as the conversations in the movie do) as well as moving the romance of the ships forward too. Not sure I've ever used it in anything else. Most fics that do use it go for all the clichés and its as boring as it is anything else, unless I'm just looking to read trash, i.e. any excuse to make my ship snog, etc. lol
