This entire story is amazing, because I loved the Neverending Story and it never occurred to me to cross the two. Plus, the dissociative identities worked amazingly well in this context. The details regarding the alters and how they switch, their histories, the dream dens and the somnacin addiction... I love how the details all come together until the punchy ending, which hit me like a two by four. I was not expecting that, and I'm left rereading the last few lines with a O_O expression.
